Fortified Oatmeal was
the breakfast the day
before and today was
pancakes! real
campers we are!

Off to Chief Jo's to
wander around town
after a terrific hike only
ten miles away.

The hike from Sullivan's Hiking Guide
led us through a burnt out forest. The
fireweed was blooming and making
colorful fences in all different directions
as long as there was a small stream
near by. Flies loved our calves. The
grey was astounding in this stand of
trees denuded by fire and wind some
30 or 40 years ago. Wild strawberries
again begged us to sample their little
juicy morsels...so sweet, so tiny.
The deer were daylight
raccoons. All over the
campgrounds; spindly legs
hardly able to leap streams or
climb trails.They ate off of
tables, out of people's hands
despite the $77 possible dollar
fine. Lots of holes made by
marmots pitted the
campground walkways.
Homeward Bound on Monday
A Sound
Sleep
and early
morning rise to
leave the Wallowa
Lodge, jump in the
car and drive
through Joseph,
and breakfast in
Enterprise, OR.
How this trip end so quietly, despite the long drive, the
A& W Root Beer Float in the middle of nowhere, the
wonderful little park at the End of the Oregon Trail where
we made out last fix'ns for late lunch. The hot slow re-entry
to Portland, the greetings of family and friends and staff that
we actually returned uninjured by
an RV or bear or lions oh my.

The ends are just so quiet.

End Monday.
